Litter Campaign

Following the Cwrt Y Vil MUGA launch, it was stated that litter was a concern for Penarth. By identifying the key issues around litter, PYA had decided to create a litter campaign in aid to reduce the amount of litter that is found around Penarth. As a group we had noticed around Penarth and in certain areas, that there can be high level of litter. In relation to the response from the Cwrt Y Vil Muga launch that we had decided to engage with the community to give their opinions and provide them to give their feedback.

In early spring, PYA developed a survey which aims to assess the worst areas of rubbish throughout Penarth and surrounding areas. Since starting the campaign we’ve been fortunate to pinpoint a few local areas which will help us in within the coming months.

In January, PYA members were also visited by Councillor Mark Wilson regarding litter and how it is processed in the Vale of Glamorgan. This visit was very insightful and that Edo Abramovich, Penarth Youth Action Chair said: “It was very interesting and hope to see improvements in Penarth”.

Following on from our visit to Tŷ Hafan back in December 2023, PYA has been able to maintain a partnership with Tŷ Hafan in relation to the accessibility found within Penarth. Recently on the 15th February 2024, PYA had joined Tŷ Hafan’s Youth Advisory Board to explore how accessible the museum is. Unfortunately, as a collective our findings had shown that the museum was inaccessible due to toilets being inaccessible due to maintenance work, steps to get into the buildings and at times uneven pathways. In connection with the toilets, it had estimated that whilst trying to find a toilet that was suitable for a wheelchair user that it had taken almost 40 minutes resulting with them using the main toilets in the main museum.

Police Visit

On the 26th February, members of PYA were joined by local PCSO’s. These were PCSO Short and PCSO Worrall. Both PCSO’s had showed an interest into PYA and that discussed with us regarding our current work, and they had also suggested a few opportunities the PYA and South Wales Police can collaborate with. They had also provided us with an exciting opportunity to collaborate with them to tackle underage drinking and the purchasing of nitrogen oxide cannisters.

As a group PYA are thrilled to be given this opportunity and that we look forward to work with SWP.
