The survey that Penarth Youth Action (PYA) created for the Cwrt Y Vil MUGA was completed 58 times. PYA also collected a further 300 ‘dream MUGA’ designs from the year 7 Stanwell students at the Stanwell Teambuilding day in June.
Here are some of the results from the survey:
- Of the young people who use the MUGA, over 50% say they use it daily or weekly.
- The main suggestions for how the MUGA could be improved included having better sports equipment, new floor markings and painting the MUGA sideboards and frame.
- Of the young people who do not use the MUGA, 42% said they do not use the MUGA because it isn’t nice to use.
PYA members are pleased with the amount of survey completions and MUGA designs that were collected. The Stanwell teambuilding day allowed PYA to get feedback and ideas from a large number of young people.
From the results we can see that the area is popular for young people to use, and they would like to see the MUGA improved. This includes fixing the current equipment, side boards and installing football goals under the basketball hoops.
The results of this survey will be presented to Penarth Town Council and the Vale of Glamorgan Council. PYA would like to continue to improve the MUGA, potential future activities could include being involved in the planning and design of a new MUGA, designing PYA bins to be installed in the area and creating a mural with the young people of Penarth.
