Without the usual street celebrations, Penarth’s Christmas lights have been switched on for the winter season.

2020 has been a tough year for people across the country and Penarth Town Council hopes that these lights will bring some Christmas cheer to Penarth residents during the darker nights.  Town Christmas lights serve many purposes, from enticing shoppers to improving visibility but this year they also symbolise our togetherness at a time when so many are required to be apart.

Penarth Town Council would like to say a huge thank you to Production 78 for a successful installation of this year’s lights. Production 78 designed and installed the display which includes over 6000 LED lights and more than a kilometre of cable across Windsor Road and Glebe Street this year. All the lights are made from 100% recycled and biodegradable materials making this year’s installation the most eco- friendly display to date. The use of LED lights also means that the energy consumption is 10 times less than normal incandescent Christmas lights.

Production 78 takes its impact on the environment seriously, Company Director. Duncan Thompson said:

“We believe in a circular economy and therefore we reuse or recycle all the components of our decorations. We hope that this. and by getting the lights up for an extra week this year will further increase the Christmas cheer, in what has been a tough shopping year for businesses in Penarth Town Centre.”

See the lights for yourself and please support the many local independent businesses who are relying on you this Christmas season.

The Christmas Lights will be on between 4pm and 11pm daily, until the 6th January.
