I want to address the deeply concerning and wholly inappropriate front cover “wrapper” recently published by the Penarth Times, which placed an image of me alongside a political advertisement without my knowledge or consent.

I agreed to be interviewed by the newspaper in good faith, on the understanding that this would be used responsibly within an appropriate editorial context. To then see my image positioned in a way that risks implying association with political messaging that I fundamentally oppose is unacceptable.

I am proud to represent and actively support migrant workers, women, disabled people, and the LGBT+ community. These commitments are central to my public service and my role as Mayor. Any suggestion, however indirect, that I might be aligned with messaging that contradicts these values is both misleading and deeply offensive.

For the avoidance of any doubt, I do not support, endorse, or align myself in any way with the political messaging presented alongside my image. The views promoted in that advertisement are not only unconnected to me—they stand in complete opposition to my values and the principles I have always worked to uphold.

I have formally raised this matter with the Penarth Times and requested a clear and prominent apology, alongside a full clarification to residents. I have also sought assurances that such a situation will not be repeated.

I remain firmly committed to standing up for the people of Penarth and the values that define our community. This includes continuing to celebrate inclusion and equality, and I will be hosting a Penarth Pride event on Saturday 16th May at West House.
