Penarth Cemetery & Chapel

Penarth Cemetery & Chapel is a breathtaking venue for your event.

With the recent reopening of the Cemetery Chapel the site can provide a beautiful and tranquil site for a range of community events, meetings, training and conferences. At Penarth Town Council we are delighted to have this space available for use within the community.  As a popular and important outdoor space the Cemetery provides a historic context for your event.

The first interment at Penarth Cemetery took place on 8th December 1903 and since then more than 11,800 burials have taken place.

The site was acquired on 2 March 1903 from the Right Honourable Robert George Lord Windsor (vendor) by Penarth Urban District Council. The vendor agreed to sell the land to the council for the sum of two thousand and two hundred and fifty pounds. The land consisted of 5 acres on the land at lower Penarth for use as a Cemetery. Further adjoining land was then purchased in 1923 as an extension creating the grounds you see today.

If you are interested in hiring the venue for your event or meeting please fill out the form below and one of our team will be in touch with details.

Please be Aware:

Due to the sensitivities of the site and proximity to local residents we will not be pursuing hires which contain any amplified loud music, late night entertainment or the sale of alcohol.

It is essential that all hires respect the location. This would usually limit activity within the regular opening hours of the cemetery however we are happy to discuss your requirements. Examples of encouraged activity includes community group meetings & coffee groups, business meetings, local nature & history talks, mindfulness, educational classes.
