On Friday, 7th March, The Town Mayor, Cllr Gwenda Roberts, led a wreath-laying ceremony at the COVID Tree of Remembrance, an apple tree planted in 2023 as a tribute to those affected by the pandemic. The ceremony, held at the top of Cliff Hill, took place ahead of the national COVID Day of Reflection on Sunday, 9th March 2025.
The wreath-laying provided a moment of quiet reflection to remember those lost to COVID-19 and acknowledge those still suffering from its long-term effects. The wreath was laid on behalf of Penarth Town Council and the people of Penarth, bearing the following message:
“Rydyn ni’n cofio’r rhai a gollwyd i Covid a’r rhai sy’n parhau i ddioddef.”
“We remember those we have lost through Covid and those who continue to suffer.”
The apple tree, which was chosen as a symbol of renewal and remembrance, now stands proudly at the cliff tops as a memorial for years to come.
The Mayor would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all who supported this meaningful occasion on behalf of Penarth Town Council.
