The annual ‘Penarth in Bloom’ Best Decorated Christmas Tree competition has been awarded to Osmond Drake Optitians.

The winner’s certificate and Christmas wreath were gifted by Town Mayor and competition Judge, Cllr Mark Wilson who loved the hand crocheted ‘Partridge in a Pear Tree – Tree’ and a “’ French Hens Tree’ to match this year’s theme of the 12 days of Christmas.

Cllr Wilson said: “Osmond Drake have taken part in the Christmas tree competition for many years and are always enthusiastic at Christmas time. Their tree for 2020 really showed off their fun personality and creativity.

The competition is run by Penarth Town Council as part of the ‘Penarth in Bloom’ Christmas Scheme. It hopes to encourage the community to plant, grow and explore the town as well as improving Wales’ garden by the sea. The Christmas planters have been distributed to over 60 businesses and organisations in the town for 2020. Lilypad florists supplied this year’s trees which Penarth town council hope will drive business and bring some Christmas magic to the many independent business in the town centre who need us more than ever.
