Network Rail will be undertaken planned engineering works from 1am on Sunday 29 March until 4:40am on Saturday 5 April, during which there will be temporary closures of the rail network.
During this closure, a bus replacement service will be running between Cardiff Central and Penarth / Barry Island / Bridgend via Barry. Please check before you travel at https://www.journeycheck.com/tfwrail/.
The programme of works is as follows:
Preparation Work – Each Sunday from Sunday 9 February until Sunday 23 March, 00:30 – 08:30
Main Renewal – Continual working around the clock from 1am on 29 March until 4:40am on 5 April
Follow Up Work – Each Sunday from Sunday 13 April until Sunday 25 May, 00:30 – 08:30.
- Preparation work – Setting up the site ready for the renewal. The tasks can include delivery of new rail, stones, and sleepers to the track area, marking of underground assets such as wires and drainage pipes and possible vegetation removal.
- Main renewal – Using an engineering train to remove the old track and components and replace them with new (This usually takes place during a full closure of the railway and can be noisy)
- Follow up work – Revisiting the area with an engineering train called a tamper to pack the track stones under the rail providing a smooth journey for passengers.
Network Rail teams will be accessing the track by Amyas Close, CF11 8EA.
