The Deputy Mayor, Councillor Tracey Alexander visited Morel Court on Friday 16th September to wish Penarth resident, Margaret Smith, a very happy 104th birthday. Mrs Smith born shortly after the Titanic sank in 1912, enjoyed time reminiscing with the Deputy Mayor (herself a Penarth girl) about their memories of the town and the changes they had lived through during their lifetimes.

When asked about the secret of her longevity Mrs Smith said her advice was to take each day at a time and not to worry about anything! Mrs Smith, one of seven children, lost her father during the Great War and says that her mother was a great inspiration to her children.

Margaret has two daughters, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She has been a resident at Morel Court since she turned 100 and enjoys the company and care the residential home offers.

The Deputy Mayor presented Mrs Smith with a beautiful basket of cyclamen and helped blow out the candles.
