Thursday 29 May 2025, 2pm – 4pm, free to attend
Paget Rooms, Penarth
Age Cymru is delighted to bring The Grief Disco to Penarth for Gwanwyn Festival 2025. We are offering you the opportunity to dance, connect and shake off your grief on the dance floor.
Grief impacts us all and can be a lonely and isolating time. We believe in the medicine of music and dance.
You and your grief are welcome here.
Leah Sian Davies and Georgina Jones are the founders of The Grief Disco and your hosts…..
‘We have both experienced significant loss in our lives and and have found healing in coming together to dance, find joy and connect with ourselves and others on the dance floor. We are building a community to create a positive and uplifting experience for anyone who is grieving and who would love to feel this connection with others who relate.’
Here’s what we’ve got lined up for you….
Our guest DJ Luna Amani will be playing an uplifting disco set designed to move the body and soul.
- Our ‘Rituals Space’ where you can take part in some simple rituals to honour your grief and celebrate if you wish.
- We will be serving up a refreshing sober bar with an abundance of delicious drinks to keep the energy flowing throughout the event.
Maybe you need somewhere to move with your grief or maybe a friend is struggling and you want to support them. This could be a wonderful way to support each other.
What happens at a Grief Disco?
All the things that happen at a disco such as dancing, chatting, enjoying apart from the people in the event are grieving and are all bonded by grief.
What happens if I get upset?
We welcome all emotions and we are trained to deal with whatever comes our way. Leah and George are trained facilitators and coaches and are there to help and support if you need it. We also find that the group support each other.
Do people come alone?
Yes, a lot of people come alone and we often connect people if that is what the person wants. This event is as individual as you so there is no “one size fits all” If you want to be on your own that’s fine. If you want to meet others we can help you with that.
Do we have to share our experience?
No, you do you. If you want to share and chat you can. This event is not about pressure or structure it’s about you doing your grief your way.
Does the bar serve alcohol?
We have decided to run our event as a sober event. Alcohol can impact the way we process our emotions and the way we behave. We don’t want people to numb their grief we are inviting people to process their grief and we don’t want anything to get in the way of that.
Will there be photos or videos taken at the event?
Yes. There will be photos and videos taken and shared in our promotional materials and social media. If you do not want to be featured, just let us know on the day.
