The Vale of Glamorgan Council recently held a drop in session regarding the new play area for Paget Road

In summary, Vale of Glamorgan’s plans include:

  • The works will comprise of an upgraded play area, a new replacement multi-use games area (MUGA) and an upgraded new footpath. The footprint of the play area and MUGA will remain similar in size to the existing.
  • There will be low level lighting along the footpath (similar to zig zag path).
  • There will be LED lighting so that the Multi-use games area will benefit from light in the winter. The lighting will be controlled via a timer connected to a push button set on a pedestal which will be available for use until 9pm and a warning buzzer will indicate when the lights are about to be turned off.  The timer will prevent lights being switched on after this time.  The lighting will meet Class 3 lighting standard for pitches and has been chosen as a lighting standard for use by local families and is not intended for competition sports matches.
  • Contractor will be Jones Brothers (Henllan) Ltd. who will be working between 7:30am and 5pm, although any noisy operations will not be started until 8am. Contractor does not anticipate working weekends at present.
  • Contract start date is week commencing 23 April 2018. 16 week contract
  • Completion due : Early August
  • The Vale of Glamorgan Council has had to remove 3 trees to allow the footpath to be constructed to DDA compliancy, and to also ensure the width can be achieved to allow vehicles to access the play area and MUGA for maintenance reasons. The existing path could not be raised in its current position as it is too close to the slope. VoG will be planting 3 semi-mature trees in the vicinity.
