Penarth Youth Action (PYA), the youth council for Penarth, is currently recruiting new members from local secondary schools and youth organisations.
The group consists of members aged 11-18 who have been elected or nominated from their schools or youth organisations to represent their peers and all young people in Penarth.
The youth council is a partnership project between the Vale Youth Service and the Penarth Town Council and has been extremely successful over the last few years in providing a valuable forum for young people to express their views and take action to improve their town. Being part of PYA has also helped young people develop a variety of skills that will help them in their future careers, grow in confidence and gain accredited qualifications that they can present on their UCAS forms and CVs.
Furthermore, the group has enjoyed a number of exciting and fun team-building activities and events. PYA members have said that they are learning and developing within an environment that they find positive and fun. Members also say that they feel that local decision-makers take their views and ideas seriously when making decisions that will affect young people in the town.
If you are a young person aged between 11 and 18 or work with young people in this age range, and would be interested in being involved with this project, please email Geraint at valeyouthaction@gmail.com or phone 02920 701254.
