An opening ceremony took place on Saturday 26th May – marking the installation of the new seating in the Arcot Street Triangle and celebrating the work that has been undertaken in recent months by a group of local residents and members of the Penarth Gardening Group to clear and introduce new planting schemes into the Triangle.

The three new benches and a new bin were funded by the Section 106 Fund relating to the nearby Penarth Heights Development. The re-development of the Triangle has been overseen by Penarth Town Council, with support for the project also having been provided by the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

The new Mayor of Penarth, Councillor Jon Luxton, cut a ribbon and thanked the local residents who had come together as a group and worked hard to look after and improve their local environment.

Councillor Kathryn McCaffer also praised the efforts of the community and thanked Vision 21, a locally based charity who provide training opportunities for adults with physical and learning disabilities. Vision 21 created and installed the benches.

Mr Andrew Finch of V21 told the gathered residents that V21 had really enjoyed working on the project and hoped to work with Penarth Town Council again in the future as these types of projects were of benefit to everyone involved. Finally, Tricia Griffiths, of the Penarth Gardening Group and local resident Julie Poole also offered their thanks to the Town Council for working hard to support their efforts to improve the space.

Penarth Town Council thanks the Vale of Glamorgan Council for their assistance.

Also this week, businesses took delivery of the latest scheme of town centre planters. This wave has extended the reach to 75 planters, with new locations added across Penarth.

The Arcot Street Triangle project will form part of Penarth’s entry into the 2018 Wales in Bloom competition.
