SUMMARY:Gosia Buzzanca: There She Goes\, My Beautiful World
DESCRIPTION:Spend an evening exploring the meaning of ‘home’ with local author Gosia Buzzanca. Gosia will be in conversation with fellow author and communications professional Jade E. Bradford\, about her stunning new memoir\, There She Goes\, My Beautiful World. \n***\nWhat does ‘home’ mean? Is it where you come from\, or something you must build for yourself\, brick by brick\, from the ruins and treasures of everything that came before? \nIn this compelling memoir\, Gosia Buzzanca tells the story of leaving Poland at nineteen in search of a bigger life\, hoping to leave the traumas of her teenage years behind. After studying in England\, she finds a rich new tapestry of experience awaiting her in Wales – love\, literature\, motherhood\, and the challenge of making peace with the past so that this new life by the sea can finally feel like home. \nWritten with the fearless honesty of a poet\, this is a story for anyone who has ever felt lost or incomplete\, and who yearns to find the place where they truly belong.\n\nGosia Buzzanca was born in Poznań\, Poland and moved to the UK in 2008. She earned a Creative Writing MA with distinction and was the recipient of the W&A Working-Class Writers’ Prize (2022) before being selected for the Hay Festival Writers at Work programme in 2025. Her writing has been praised as “warm and vibrant”\, “poetic and electrifying”\, and “fearlessly tender”. She lives in Barry\, South Wales\, where she is working on her first novel. \nJade E. Bradford is an author and communications and engagement professional based in South Wales. Her short fiction\, often concerned with place and belonging\, has been published in Wasafiri\, Breadfruit Magazine\, and Rowayat. Her work has been longlisted for the 2025 4th Estate and Guardian 4thWrite Prize\, won the 2024 Breadfruit Magazine Prize\, and was highly commended in the 2023 Faber FAB Prize for Children’s Literature. She has been selected for the Literature Wales Representing Wales cohort (2023/24)\, Black British Book Festival Writers on the Rise (2024)\, and Hay Festival Writers at Work (2025). \n***\nThursday 6 November | 7.30 pm\nGriffin Books\, 9A Windsor Road\, Penarth\, CF64 1JB*\nTickets: £20.00 including a SIGNED hardback copy of There She Goes\, My Beautiful World (RRP £16.99)* / £8.00 Event Only / £5.00 Student Ticket / £5.00 Inclusive Ticket \n*IMPORTANT: Please be aware that the toilet at Griffin Books can only be accessed via three steps and so is not accessible for wheelchair users or people with mobility issues. SUMMARY:NT Live: Mrs. Warren’s Profession
DESCRIPTION:Mrs. Warren’s Profession \nby Bernard Shaw \ndirected by Dominic Cooke \n  \nFive-time Olivier Award winner Imelda Staunton (The Crown) joins forces with her real-life daughter Bessie Carter (Bridgerton) for the very first time\, playing mother and daughter in Bernard Shaw’s incendiary moral classic. \nVivie Warren is a woman ahead of her time. Her mother\, however\, is a product of that old patriarchal order. Exploiting it has earned Mrs. Warren a fortune – but at what cost? \nFilmed live from the West End\, this new production reunites Staunton with director Dominic Cooke (Follies\, Good)\, exploring the clash between morality and independence\, traditions and progress.

The 1986 film has a surprisingly complex history; it began as a short story\, then became a low-budget film\, before turning into an Off-Broadway play\, when finally Frank Oz and his team created this quirky\, screen version. Many fans do not know that this adaptation originally had a far more sinister ending\, which everyone can now see in the additional Director’s Cut of the film included in this special edition package. \nThis is a relaxed screening in our gallery\, designed to dress up\, sing and dance along. \nWe look forward to welcoming to Penarth Pier Pavilion – Your Cinema by the Sea! \nPlease use the seat booking function to select your seats\, if seats are not booked\, Eventbrite will automatically select seats for you\, which we may be unable to change following the booking. \nSinema: Little Shop of Horrors (1986) (PG) \nDyddiad: Dydd Iau 30 Hydref \nAmser: Dechrau am 7pm \nTocyn: £8.50 y pen (mae ffi archebu’n berthnasol) \nCyfarwyddwr: Frank Oz \nCast: Rick Moranis\, Ellen Greene\, Vincent Gardenia\, Steve Martin\, John Candy\, Bill Murray \nHyd: 94 Munud \nDewch i ddathlu Calan Gaeaf gyda’n cyfres sinema frawychus! \nComedi\, stori garu a chlasur cwlt gyda phlanhigyn enfawr o’r gofod sy’n canu – beth arall allai fod ond Little Shop of Horrors? Mae gan y ffilm o 1986 hanes rhyfeddol o gymhleth; dechreuodd fel stori fer\, yna daeth yn ffilm rad\, cyn troi’n ddrama Off-Broadway\, pan greodd Frank Oz a’i dîm y fersiwn ryfedd hon ar gyfer y sgrin fawr. Nid yw llawer o ddilynwyr yn gwybod bod gan yr addasiad hwn ddiweddglo llawer mwy arswydus yn wreiddiol\, y gall pawb nawr ei weld yn fersiwn ychwanegol y cyfarwyddwr o’r ffilm\, sydd wedi’i chynnwys yn y pecyn arbennig hwn. \nMae hwn yn ddangosiad hamddenol yn ein horiel\, wedi’i gynllunio ar gyfer gwisgo gwisg ffansi\, canu a dawnsio ar y cyd. \nRydyn ni’n edrych ymlaen at eich croesawu i Bafiliwn Pier Penarth – ‘Eich Sinema ger y Môr’! \nDefnyddiwch y swyddogaeth archebu seddi i ddewis eich seddi\, os nad yw seddi yn cael eu harchebu\, bydd Eventbrite yn dewis seddi ar eich rhan yn awtomatig\, ac efallai na fyddwn ni’n gallu eu newid ar ôl archebu.

SUMMARY:An evening of poetry and music with Sophie Buchaillard and friends
DESCRIPTION:Poetry meets performance in this intimate evening marking the release of Sophie Buchaillard’s debut collection\, Painting Over the Cracks. Blending personal experience with poetic insight\, Sophie’s pamphlet traces a journey through trauma\, motherhood\, and healing\, where community\, friendship\, and creative expression offer ways to mend what lies beneath the surface. \nSophie will be joined by special guests: award-winning poet Mab Jones and folk singer Siobhan McCrudden. Together with these three artists\, we invite you to a night that celebrates resilience and the strength found in sharing stories. \n***\nPainting Over the Cracks is novelist Sophie Buchaillard’s poetry debut. Inspired by her life\, this pamphlet explores the healing power of expression\, friendship\, and community in overcoming trauma. Split into four chronological sections\, the pamphlet travels from the anxieties of a single mother to memories of buried traumas and how unspoken shame has a way to colour every interaction\, fraying family ties\, and making it hard to fully engage with the world. Poetry\, here\, becomes a means of articulating the unspoken\, claiming back a sense of community\, and recognising the strength that comes from friendship without judgment. \nSophie Buchaillard: Sophie is the author of two novels and a dozen essays. Her second novel\, Assimilation\, was described by cultural critic Jon Gower as “thriller meets magic realism”. Her first novel\, This Is Not Who We Are\, was shortlisted for the Rhys Davies Trust Fiction Award and the Wales Book of the Year. \nShe has written extensively about the 1994 genocide of the Tutsi in Rwanda and also contributed essays to three collections: Woman’s Wales? about women and devolution; An Open Door: New Travel Writing for a Precarious Century\, about modern travel writing; and the COVID-themed collection Together and Apart. \nAfter attending the Hay Festival in 2023 as a Writer at Work and benefitting from the mentoring of inspiring poets\, she went home and exclusively read poetry for a year. Not knowing what she was doing\, she simply wrote\, exploring family relationships at first\, letting herself being led by the words. In that sense\, she fell into poetry\, and poetry wouldn’t let go. Painting Over the Cracks is the result\, a debut pamphlet about the healing power of expression\, friendship\, and community in overcoming trauma – its title poem was shortlisted for the International Bridport Poetry Prize in 2024.\n\nMab Jones: Mab is a multi-award-winning writer and performer whose work spans the UK\, US\, France\, Ireland\, and Japan. Her poetry collections include 111 Haiku for Lockdown\, The Land That Grew Me (Selcouth Station Prize winner)\, Yubitsume\, Poor Queen\, and the recent mythological wetlands memoir Bog Witch. She has written for The New York Times\, presented BBC poetry programmes (including two Radio 4 Pick of the Week choices)\, and taught at Cardiff University. Mab has received accolades including the John Tripp Award for Spoken Poetry\, the Aurora Prize\, and a Creative Wales Award. \nSiobhan McCrudden: Described as “a singer who is gifted with one of the finest voices in contemporary UK folk music”\, Cardiff-based Siobhan crafts songs of intensity and sweetness\, recounting personal stories whilst reflecting a vivid fascination with dark folk tales and superstitions. Raised in London to parents with Scottish and Irish roots\, her vocal leanings reflect early memories of folk musicians at family gatherings and a strong desire to connect with these emotive beginnings. \n***\nWednesday 15 October | 7.30 pm (Doors at 7.00pm)\nPenarth Pier Pavilion\, Penarth\nTickets: £15.00 including a SIGNED copy of Painting over the Cracks (RRP: £10.00\, paperback)* / £10.00 Event Only** / £5.00 Student Ticket / £5.00 Inclusive Ticket \n*Any book not collected at the event will be held in Griffin Books for three months after the date of the event.\n** There are a limited number of Event Tickets available

SUMMARY:Penarth Ministry Area | Prayer Vigil for Palestine
DESCRIPTION:In response to the ongoing genocide in Gaza\, Penarth Ministry Area is organising a Vigil of Prayer at All Saints Church\, Victoria Square\, on Sunday 5th October between 6 and 9pm. Those attending are asked to wear red or bring something red so that we can join in with Christian Aid’s ‘Red Line for Gaza’ campaign and form a symbolic red line outside the church. \nDuring the three-hour vigil there will be some intermittent readings and prayers but also plenty of time for silent reflection and prayer\, and the chance to light a candle of hope. All are welcome to join us for all or part of that time to pray for the desperate people of Gaza\, for the aid agencies working in the region\, for the release of all hostages and for a route to lasting peace in the Middle East – please drop in for however long you can spare.
