SUMMARY:Christmas Twinkle Trail
DESCRIPTION:Can you find all the twinkle lights and track down the hiding elves?… \nSet up in 2020 during the covid pandemic\, the Victoria Square Twinkle Trail was designed to help parents get their kids outside and interacting with the natural world during the coldest and darkest months. Using copper wired battery powered lights and the wood from last years’ Christmas trees it’s designed to have a minimal impact on the natural environment… though the squirrels sometimes have other ideas! \nIn 2025\, the trail will run from Saturday 29 November to Wednesday 24 December. The lights will be on from 1pm to 6pm daily during that time. \nCan you find all 24 little lights? Each light has a wooden tag attached with an object and a number. The 4 Victoria Square elves had hidden themselves near the community garden. If you find them\, they each have a wooden tag too but theirs will tell you their names… fill out the trail form (available from Foxy’s Deli on Victoria Road for a £3 donation to Friends of Victoria Square) and return it to Foxy’s to receive a Christmas gift from the elves. \nNotes for parents: \nA torch will be useful.  Particularly for spotting elves who are quite good at hiding!  We’d say the best time to do the trail is late afternoon / twilight but older children might enjoy it in the dark.  It can be muddy\, so wellies are good too.  \nThe lights should be on from 13.00-18.00.  There’s always a possibility things might get moved or wander slightly.  We check daily but please accept our apologies in this case.  The lights should be out of children’s reach as they’re designed to be prickly to deter squirrel attack! \nAny queries – please email info@trailsbalesandsnails.co.uk  and we’ll do our best to help.  \nFinally – we’d love your feedback!  We’re looking at making more events like this and welcome comments and opinions.  Check out the shortcuts to our instagram and facebook feeds.

SUMMARY:Menna Elfyn: Parch
DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss this special evening with the brilliant Menna Elfyn – one of Wales’s foremost poets – to celebrate the publication of Parch\, her powerful and deeply moving new collection exploring respect\, compassion\, and the triumph of kindness in a fractured world. \nParch is a landmark publication for Menna and the first to include poems written directly in English\, as well as in her own translation. \nParch:\nIn Welsh\, parch (with a guttural ‘ch’) simply means respect. This stunning collection of poems gives voice to those whose liberty or dignity has been undermined\, calling for religious\, linguistic and cultural tolerance while confronting the effects of (in)humanity on our environment\, our histories\, and our lives.\n\nAmong these are powerful poems responding to sexual harassment\, exploitation and violence against women\, and to the plight of people caught up in armed conflicts past and present. Mercy is a recurring theme\, with poems exploring the tension between justice and forgiveness.\nMenna Elfyn shares Nobel laureate Herta Müller’s belief that ‘holding one’s own language up to the eyes of another leads to a solid relationship\, a relaxed kind of love’. This distils the essence of ‘Parch‘: respect as refuge\, and compassion as a force for transformation.\n\nMenna Elfyn is a major figure in contemporary Welsh poetry – she is the best-known\, most travelled and most translated of all Welsh-language poets. Her work has been translated into more than eighteen languages\, and her voice is by turns challenging and compassionate\, unafraid of joy and full of the energies of community. She has published five previous dual-language books of poetry with Bloodaxe\, including the Poetry Book Society Recommended Translation Murmur. Parch is her sixth poetry collection from Bloodaxe\, and her first to include poems written directly in English as well as in her own translation. \n***\nThursday 20 November\n7.30 pm (doors open 7.00 pm)\nGriffin Books\, 9A Windsor Road\, Penarth \nTickets: £18.00 including a SIGNED copy of Parch (Hardback RRP: £12.99)* / £10.00 Event Only / £5.00 Student Ticket / £5.00 Inclusive Ticket \n*Any book not collected at the event will be held in Griffin Books for three months after the date of the event.

SUMMARY:Penarth Civic Society | The Windsor Clive Family and Penarth with Chris Riley
DESCRIPTION:Without the Windsor-Clive family\, Penarth as we know it would not exist.  They acquired the land\, made it accessible\, designed and created a completely new settlement.  To them we owe the quirky street plan\, the odd street names\, the parks and gardens\, the feel and character of the place.  But who were they? \nThe talk will trace how the Windsors and the Clives – long little known outside their respective midland counties – seized opportunities to increase their wealth and influence.  Marriage between them created one of the most important families in Victorian Glamorgan\, and Penarth remains indelibly marked by their energy and vision. \n\n\n\nThursday 20th November at St Augustine’s Hall\, Albert Road\nGuest Speaker : Chris Riley\n\n\nDoors open 6.30 PM\, talk starts at 7.00PM.\n\nFree to Members\, Non Members £3.00\, Non members 18-25 £2.00\nTickets can be booked at\nhttps://www.penarthsociety.org.uk/event-details/the-windsor-clive-family-and-penarth-chris-riley

SUMMARY:Gosia Buzzanca: There She Goes\, My Beautiful World
DESCRIPTION:Spend an evening exploring the meaning of ‘home’ with local author Gosia Buzzanca. Gosia will be in conversation with fellow author and communications professional Jade E. Bradford\, about her stunning new memoir\, There She Goes\, My Beautiful World. \n***\nWhat does ‘home’ mean? Is it where you come from\, or something you must build for yourself\, brick by brick\, from the ruins and treasures of everything that came before? \nIn this compelling memoir\, Gosia Buzzanca tells the story of leaving Poland at nineteen in search of a bigger life\, hoping to leave the traumas of her teenage years behind. After studying in England\, she finds a rich new tapestry of experience awaiting her in Wales – love\, literature\, motherhood\, and the challenge of making peace with the past so that this new life by the sea can finally feel like home. \nWritten with the fearless honesty of a poet\, this is a story for anyone who has ever felt lost or incomplete\, and who yearns to find the place where they truly belong.\n\nGosia Buzzanca was born in Poznań\, Poland and moved to the UK in 2008. She earned a Creative Writing MA with distinction and was the recipient of the W&A Working-Class Writers’ Prize (2022) before being selected for the Hay Festival Writers at Work programme in 2025. Her writing has been praised as “warm and vibrant”\, “poetic and electrifying”\, and “fearlessly tender”. She lives in Barry\, South Wales\, where she is working on her first novel. \nJade E. Bradford is an author and communications and engagement professional based in South Wales. Her short fiction\, often concerned with place and belonging\, has been published in Wasafiri\, Breadfruit Magazine\, and Rowayat. Her work has been longlisted for the 2025 4th Estate and Guardian 4thWrite Prize\, won the 2024 Breadfruit Magazine Prize\, and was highly commended in the 2023 Faber FAB Prize for Children’s Literature. She has been selected for the Literature Wales Representing Wales cohort (2023/24)\, Black British Book Festival Writers on the Rise (2024)\, and Hay Festival Writers at Work (2025). \n***\nThursday 6 November | 7.30 pm\nGriffin Books\, 9A Windsor Road\, Penarth\, CF64 1JB*\nTickets: £20.00 including a SIGNED hardback copy of There She Goes\, My Beautiful World (RRP £16.99)* / £8.00 Event Only / £5.00 Student Ticket / £5.00 Inclusive Ticket \n*IMPORTANT: Please be aware that the toilet at Griffin Books can only be accessed via three steps and so is not accessible for wheelchair users or people with mobility issues. SUMMARY:NT Live: Mrs. Warren’s Profession
DESCRIPTION:Mrs. Warren’s Profession \nby Bernard Shaw \ndirected by Dominic Cooke \n  \nFive-time Olivier Award winner Imelda Staunton (The Crown) joins forces with her real-life daughter Bessie Carter (Bridgerton) for the very first time\, playing mother and daughter in Bernard Shaw’s incendiary moral classic. \nVivie Warren is a woman ahead of her time. Her mother\, however\, is a product of that old patriarchal order. Exploiting it has earned Mrs. Warren a fortune – but at what cost? \nFilmed live from the West End\, this new production reunites Staunton with director Dominic Cooke (Follies\, Good)\, exploring the clash between morality and independence\, traditions and progress.

The 1986 film has a surprisingly complex history; it began as a short story\, then became a low-budget film\, before turning into an Off-Broadway play\, when finally Frank Oz and his team created this quirky\, screen version. Many fans do not know that this adaptation originally had a far more sinister ending\, which everyone can now see in the additional Director’s Cut of the film included in this special edition package. \nThis is a relaxed screening in our gallery\, designed to dress up\, sing and dance along. \nWe look forward to welcoming to Penarth Pier Pavilion – Your Cinema by the Sea! \nPlease use the seat booking function to select your seats\, if seats are not booked\, Eventbrite will automatically select seats for you\, which we may be unable to change following the booking. \nSinema: Little Shop of Horrors (1986) (PG) \nDyddiad: Dydd Iau 30 Hydref \nAmser: Dechrau am 7pm \nTocyn: £8.50 y pen (mae ffi archebu’n berthnasol) \nCyfarwyddwr: Frank Oz \nCast: Rick Moranis\, Ellen Greene\, Vincent Gardenia\, Steve Martin\, John Candy\, Bill Murray \nHyd: 94 Munud \nDewch i ddathlu Calan Gaeaf gyda’n cyfres sinema frawychus! \nComedi\, stori garu a chlasur cwlt gyda phlanhigyn enfawr o’r gofod sy’n canu – beth arall allai fod ond Little Shop of Horrors? Mae gan y ffilm o 1986 hanes rhyfeddol o gymhleth; dechreuodd fel stori fer\, yna daeth yn ffilm rad\, cyn troi’n ddrama Off-Broadway\, pan greodd Frank Oz a’i dîm y fersiwn ryfedd hon ar gyfer y sgrin fawr. Nid yw llawer o ddilynwyr yn gwybod bod gan yr addasiad hwn ddiweddglo llawer mwy arswydus yn wreiddiol\, y gall pawb nawr ei weld yn fersiwn ychwanegol y cyfarwyddwr o’r ffilm\, sydd wedi’i chynnwys yn y pecyn arbennig hwn. \nMae hwn yn ddangosiad hamddenol yn ein horiel\, wedi’i gynllunio ar gyfer gwisgo gwisg ffansi\, canu a dawnsio ar y cyd. \nRydyn ni’n edrych ymlaen at eich croesawu i Bafiliwn Pier Penarth – ‘Eich Sinema ger y Môr’! \nDefnyddiwch y swyddogaeth archebu seddi i ddewis eich seddi\, os nad yw seddi yn cael eu harchebu\, bydd Eventbrite yn dewis seddi ar eich rhan yn awtomatig\, ac efallai na fyddwn ni’n gallu eu newid ar ôl archebu.

DESCRIPTION:Step into the fast lane of Formula 1 with Sky Sports pit lane reporter Ted Kravitz as he takes you beyond the grid and into the heart of the sport’s most unforgettable moments. In his first book\, F1 Insider: Notes from the Pit Lane\, Ted looks back over nearly 30 years in Formula 1\, reliving the weird\, wonderful and extraordinary stories that shaped the modern era of racing. Ted also reflects on the champions who changed the game: the determination of Michael Schumacher\, the genius of Lewis Hamilton\, the brilliance of Alonso\, Vettel and Verstappen\, and the fresh energy of Leclerc\, Norris\, Sainz and Piastri.\n\nF1 Insider isn’t just about racing.
