Christmas Festival
The Penarth Christmas Festival has grabbed the communities attention in recent years and has been wonderfully supported by the people of the town who line the streets for the Parade and pack out the town centre on the last Sunday in November for the Christmas Light Switch On and the visit of Father Christmas. The Christmas Festival's aim is to create a spectacular showcase to celebrate the beginning of the Christmas Festivities period and to bring camaraderie and a sense of fun to the town.
The Parade:
The Christmas Parade is organised by Peter Knowles and Andy Bradshaw from Hamptons who have helped the Town Council put on this spectacular event.
The parade starts from 2pm at West House making its way up to the clock tower in the town centre before turning into Windsor Road and the stage area. Colourful characters based upon the theme of the Festival make their way through the streets of Penarth together with musicians, dancers, classic cars, nativity scenes, donkeys, a myriad of other characters both big and small and Father Christmas himself. The Parade travels through the town to drop off Father Christmas at the stage where he spends time meeting and greeting all the children, so don't forget to give him your letters.
If you would like to enter this year's Parade please contact Peter Knowles from Hamptons via email: peter@hamptons-design.co.uk , Tel: 02920 705391 or Keri Hutchings at the Town Council.
The Christmas Light Switch On then takes place from the stage at 5.00pm with the Town Mayor and Mayoress with invited guest counting down with the crowd to light up the town.
All the food and refreshments for the celebrations are provided by the local traders of the town. For more information on the Christmas Festivities contact the Town Council on 029 20713843.
